Day ENT SHO is bleep: 1501 (Basingstoke); Night ENT SHO is blp 0529 (Frimley); ENT Registrar: via mobile

ENT ward:

• Adults admitted to DTC (post-ops only) 

• Paediatric admitted to: G1 ward

• Treatment room: N/A clinic rooms used to see and treat emergency patients

• Ward round: 7:45 at Frimley

 

SHOs:

• 3 posts ( 1x FY2s - 4monthly, 1x GPST2s shared with derm & opthal, 1x trust grade & core trainee grade)

• ENT experience: They typically have little to no ENT experience. They attend inducation at Frimley at beginning of rotation

• Shift patterns:

  • Day on-call: Bleep held by SHO 8am-5pm (SpR will hold if SHOs away) 

  • Night on-call: SHO non-resident on-call shared with Frimley (Separate SHO on-call at Guildford)

Emergency clinic called "Hot clinic/treatment room?"

• Booked via: SHOs & SpRs and appointments registered with the secretaries 

• Added to routine outpatient clinics. 

  

Theatre:

• All elective cases should have discharge letters completed at the end of the case:

  • JAC system for drugs​

  • eNoting for EDL (discharge letter)

  • ICE for histology

• Elective cases:

  • Basingstone in DTC only

  • Frimley in DSU2, Theatre 12 primarily

• CEPOD cases in main theatre

  • ​Booked via CEPOD coordinator​
  • Lots of notice required as few CEPOD nurses have ENT experience

• Pre-op Patients:

  • Paeds - DTC ward or G1​

  • Adults - DTC lounge

• ​

 

Clinics:

• Held at Basingstone and Alton Community Hospital

• Start time 9AM/2PM

• Dictation:

  • currently traditional dictaphone

  • Letters then verified on eNoting workstream once transcibed

  • Plan to move to voice recognition software

• Paper outcome form manually completed for follow-up

Common investigations/referrals:

• Bloods/histology/imaging - all requested via ICE

• Vestibular function tests: form to audiology

• BAHA/MEIs assessments: letter to James Mitchell at Frimley Park 

• Sleep studies:

  • Adults: Referral to respiratory

  • Paeds: Not recommended

• Allergy skin prick tests: Not offered locally, routinely  

• Allergy RAST testing: Blood forms on ICE(If you request, be clear on form what allergens should be tested

• Anosmia - Smell testing available at Guildford (Mr Vishnu Sunkaraneni)

• Audiovestibular services: Available at Guildford (Dr Raghavan)

• Outpatient blood tests

  • Adults & most children: Weekday Walk-in service at Basingstone, Alton & Andover

• Local Skull Base Centre for referrals: Southampton - Use "referapatient" or Letter to  Mr Sebastien Thomas 

• Local Cochlear implant centre for referrals: Southampton - Letter to Mr S Thomas or Mr Hillier

• Local Paediatric Tertiary Centre for referrals: Southampton

• Local Neurosurgery Centre: Southampton - Use referapatient" or letter (for routine)

 

Rotas & leave

• Updated versions: 

  • Sent out for following week and 6 weeks in advance

  • Weekly rot meeting attend on Wednesday lunchtime by Registrar 1 and all team members

• Annual leave - request via Medirota (login given prior to start date) 

• Study leave - requested via Medirota

• Claiming expenses - claim monthly

  • Claimed via Selenity expenses online - login obtained from Payroll​

  • Duty manager is Genevieve Ryan

  • Excess Mileage/Relocation claimed via paper form to Jenny Webb (medical education)

  • Business Mileage (on call call-outs & commute to clinics/Frimley days/ Regional registrar training days) on Selenity
